Photographic reproduction of a print depicting Fort Harmar in 1790. The original print was published in the American Pioneer, volume 1, 1842. Colonel Josiah Harmar was sent to the Ohio frontier to discourage illegal settlers from moving into Ohio. He ordered Fort Harmar to be built in October 1785. The fort was built near present-day Marietta on the north side of the Ohio River by the mouth of the Muskingum River
