This pipe in effigy (a likeness or representation) of a squirrel was excavated from Tremper Mound, a Hopewell culture site located five miles north of Portsmouth in Scioto County. The squirrel is shown sitting erect with its head forward and tail erect against its body with the tip curved back. The forelimbs are extended slightly, but there is no detail of the paws; very little indication of hind legs. It appears that the entire head, chest, and left foreleg are restoration; there is a small amount of restoration at base of bowl. The pipe measures.
