The flag of Ohio is a swallowtail flag. It has seventeen white stars signifying that Ohio was the seventeenth state admitted to the Union. The thirteen stars surrounding the "O" are for the original thirteen colonies. The "O" is for Ohio. The five red and white strips represent the roads and waterways. It was designed in 1901 and in 1902 it became the official flag of Ohio. Prior to that time, there was not an official flag for the state
