Guidon of 186th O.V.I.

This swallowtail guidon of the national colors was used by the 186th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The flag was manufactured in the United States between 1861 and 1863 and is probably from the Philadelphia Depot. The flag has 34 gold-painted stars on a blue canton. The stars are arranged in a double-circle pattern with an additional star in each of the canton's four corners. The flag has thirteen alternating red and white stripes. The swallowtail flag measures 68 cm high by 78 cm wide. The 186th Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio, and mustered in on March 2, 1865 for one year of service. The regiment served in Tennessee and Georgia. It was mustered out in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 18, 1865
