Guidon of 88th O.V.I.

This swallowtail guidon of the national colors was used by the 88th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 1st Battalion Governor's Guard. The flag was manufactured in the United States between 1863 and 1865. The guidon has 35 gold-painted stars on a blue canton. The stars are arranged in a double-circle pattern with an additional star in each of the canton's four corners. The flag has thirteen alternating red and white stripes. Black painted text that reads "88th O.V.I." appears in a gold rectangle with rounded corners. The rectangle is outlined in black and is located just below the flag's canton. The swallowtail flag measures 68 cm high by 101 cm wide
