Dated 1886, this is a booklet titled "The Life and Death of Jumbo: An Illustrated History of the Greatest, Gentlest and Most Famous Heroic Beast That Ever Lived. Affectionately Dedicated to his Millions of Little Friends." Jumbo was an African elephant from the Sudan who toured the world with the P. T. Barnum Circus. On September 15, 1885, Jumbo died after falling on train tracks while exercising and then was hit by a train. In this publication, P. T. Barnum claims that Jumbo was killed when he saved a small elephant named Tom Thumb from being struck by the train.
