The Elliott firm notes the receipt of a letter from Rotch apparently posted four miles east of Pittsburgh. The Rotches were in New England until March 1821, but Charity did not tolerate the damp cold early spring climate. They left Bedford for New York where Thomas Rotch spent heavily on a variety of goods before traveling west through Philadelphia and Pittsburgh before reaching Kendal by May, 1821. The Elliott firm informs Rotch that 30 packages of goods were sent to Allen and Grant requesting that they arrange for transport to Kendal without delay and on reasonable terms.
