This letter provides a valuable inventory for sale of goods in Philadelphia in the early nineteenth century. Coffin comments on the Rotch settlement at Kendal, 1813. Rotch opened a country store shortly after he arrived at Kendal to provide perspective settlers with tools as well as household needs as few of them had the space in wagons to bring anything but basic utensils and bedding with them.
