Elias Hicks continues to offer spiritual guidance to Mary Rodman who lost her daughter to illness in 1793. The ministers urges resignation to God's will and also mentions Thomas Rotch's long journey with minister Joshua Evans to Quaker meetings in New England. Once the journey as a companion to the minister was completed, Rotch returned to his brother's New Bedford counting house as bookkeeper.
