Mary Rodman kept detailed records of her household expenditures suggesting that she was market oriented even while her husband was at sea and after her family's return to Newport after the Revolutionary War. Capt. Rodman died at sea in 1776. She and her 7 children left Newport in the 1780's during the British occupation that left much of the city in ruins.
