Evaluación preliminar de la riqueza de especies de hifomicetos acuáticos en ríos de la vertiente norte de la costa, Estado Aragua-Venezuela

Aquatic hyphomycetes are a heterogeneous group of microorganisms that are characterized by their abilities to colonize, degrade and modify the plant material in the water, allowing its use by other organisms living in the aquatic ecosystem. Due to the importance of this hyphomycetes for the energy budget in low order lotic systems, this study was carried out in order to determine, in a preliminary way, the species richness of the aquatic hyphomycetes in four streams located in the northern slope of the Cordillera de la Costa (Venezuela), and also to assess if there is any similarity between the communities of hyphomycetes present in these streams. We collected samples of water foam (three per sampling site) and identified the species of hyphomycetes; then, we performed a cluster analysis to evaluate similarities between streams as a function of species richness. A total of 27 species were identified: 20 at Cuyagua stream, 10 at Cumboto stream, 18 at Cata stream, 17 at San Miguel creek (reservoir) and 2 at the estuarine environment of San Miguel creek. Based on species composition of the aquatic hyphomycetes, the Cata stream and San Miguel creek showed the highest similarity between sites, and both of them were similar to the Cuyagua stream; the Cumboto stream showed the lesser similarity when compared with the rest of the sampling sites. Los hifomicetos acuáticos constituyen un grupo heterogéneo de hongos que colonizan, degradan y modifican el material vegetal en el agua, permitiendo que el mismo sea utilizado por otros organismos presentes en el ecosistema acuático. Dada su importancia en el balance de energía en los sistemas lóticos de bajo orden, el estudio fue realizado para determinar de forma preliminar la riqueza de especies de hifomicetos acuáticos en cuatro ríos de la vertiente norte de La Cordillera de la Costa (Venezuela) y evaluar si existe similitud entre los ríos estudiados con respecto a las comunidades de hongos encontradas. Se colectaron muestras de espuma (tres por sitio de colección) y una vez identificadas las especies y cuantificado su número, se realizó un análisis de clúster para evaluar la similitud entre los ríos en función de la riqueza de especies de hifomicetos. En los cuatro ríos fueron identificadas 27 especies: 20 en el Río Cuyagua, 10 en el Río Cumboto, 18 en el Río Cata, 17 en la Quebrada San Miguel (Represa) y 2 en el ambiente estuarino de la Quebrada San Miguel. Con base en la composición de especies de hifomicetos acuáticos, el Río Cata y la Quebrada San Miguel presentaron la mayor similitud y éstos a su vez fueron semejantes al Río Cuyagua, mientras que el Río Cumboto se diferenció claramente del resto de los ambientes estudiados
