The goal of the PSI/Ethiopia program is to reduce mortality and morbidity of children under five due to a) malaria, by improving the availability and use of long lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets (ITNs), and b) diarrhea and intestinal worms, by improving the availability and use of point of use water treatment systems, increasing use of zinc based diarrhea treatment kits, and among children 0-14 years by increasing the regular use of de-worming tablets. Shortly before this baseline su rvey, PSI/Ethiopia launched WaterGuard, an innovative point of use water purification system, and intends to launch a zinc-based diarrhea t reatment kit (which includes oral rehydration salts) and a de-worming tablet.
