This dataset contains image stacks through retinal ganglion cells. The cells were transfected with an AAV2-based vector carrying the coding sequence for a fusion protein from PSD95 and GFP. This leads to individual excitatory synapses been stained in green. The cytoskeleton was counterstained with an antibody against neurofilaments. The cells were digitized using simple neurite tracer (Image J). There are image stacks from non-glaucomatous D2.Gpnmb+ mice, 11 months-old DBA/2J mice (with glaucoma), from control C57bl/6 mice, and from C57bl/6 mice 2 weeks after optic nerve crush. All images were taken on a Leica SP5 confocal microscope with a 63x glycerol immersion lens at and optical zoom of 2. Step size in the z dimension was 0.5 um
