Vascular dementia (VaD) accounted for 13–35% of all incident dementia cases and is the second cause of dementia. The prevalence of VaD is 1–2.4% in person 65 years and over, and incidence rate is 1.5–39 cases per 1000 person-years in age over 65, and increase in older groups. Subtypes of VaD: 1. Post-stroke dementia strategic infarct dementia multi-infarct dementia dementia after intracerebral haemorrhage 2. Subcortical vascular dementia ischaemic white matter lesions (leukoaraiosis) lacunar infarcts 3. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) + vascular dementia.
