Background. Alzheimer’s disease is a term used to describe dementing disorders marked by certain brain changes. Three types of neurodegenerative lesions characterize brain parenchyma in these disorders: neurofibrillary tangles, senile plagues consisting of beta-amyloid protein deposits, and a deposition of amyloid fibrils in blood vessel walls.
