Abstract

Madelung’s disease in literature is known also as a multiple symmetrical lipomatosis (MSL), benign symmetrical lipomatosis (BSL) or Launois-Bensaude’a syndrome. It is characterized by non-encapsulated fatty masses developing symmetrically, mainly in the region of the head and neck. In extreme cases it might leads to difficulties in breathing and dysphagia. Multiple symmetrical lipomatosis etiology is not clearly known. It occurs mainly in the population of white males, aged 30 to 60 years, chronically abusing alcohol. Madelung’s disease should be differentiate with Cushing syndrome, simple obesity, cysts of the neck, salivary glands disorder, thyroid gland cancers, leukemia and soft tissues sarcoma.
