Introduction. Diabetes is included in the group of metabolic diseases. According to the estimates of the World Health Organization (WHO) the global number of patients suffering from diabetes has increased to 387 million in just 11 years. 5% of Polish society, which is about 2 million, is diagnosed with this particular illness in Poland. Metabolic disorders occur 2 to 3 times more often in patients with mental diseases than in the general population. Often diabetes is accompanied by depression making it a chronic illness. Aim.
