Galanin-like peptide (GALP) is a known hypothalamic mediator between energy states and reproduction. It has been suggested that sex differences may exist in the actions of GALP and these may be due to GALP-estradiol interactions. The purpose of these studies was to examine GALP’s effect on food intake and body weight, metabolic rate and body temperature, sex behaviors, leutinizing hormone (LH) and growth hormone (GH) secretion. We also examined GALP and estrogen receptor co-localization and GALP-induced fos activation in estrogen receptor-immunoreactive neurons of the hypothalamus.
