Among the many sciences which flourished in 18th century Spain, that of cartography developed considerably in theory and practice. At the same time the Royal Academy of San Fernando also promoted the art study of engraving. In this article we present a review of the biography of the engraver and geographer Tomás López, and aldo examine -insisting on its documentary value- his "Mapa geográfico del Reino de Granada", which he drew up in 1795.
