Georges Bataille’s book Story of the eye transgresses, by means of its contents, the calm, the boredom and the automatism of the daily life, with its lack of boldness and pleasure. Besides, the structure itself of the novel is extremely poetic, which sets the book in between the two genres, according to Roland Barthes, transgressing, on the other hand, the way in which novels are usually written. Other transgressions are solidified by the narrator and the teenager Simone’s behavior, which breaks the barriers imposed by the authorities or social decency. The relation between eye and egg is significant during the book and the two words begin to blend, in a symbiotic affinity. The phonetic similarity that they have turn into a semantic similarity. Thereby, the uses and the functions between both objects also alternate: a part of the human body can occupy the place of food and vice-versa. The boundaries between seeing and eating are also pushed. This present article will analyze the established relation between the food, represented in the book by the egg, the pleasures of the body and the poetic and transgressive language of the book. O livro de Georges Bataille, História do olho, transgride, por meio de seu conteúdo, a calmaria, o tédio e o automatismo do cotidiano, com sua falta de ousadia e prazer. Além disso, a própria estrutura do romance é extremamente poética, o que o coloca no limite entre os dois gêneros, como escreveu Roland Barthes, transgredindo, por sua vez, a forma com que os romances são habitualmente escritos. Outras transgressões se solidificam por conta do comportamento do narrador e da adolescente Simone, que rompem com as barreiras impostas por autoridades ou pudores sociais. A relação entre ovo e olho é significativa no decorrer do livro e os dois passam a se misturar, numa afinidade simbiótica. A similaridade sonora que possuem se transforma em uma similaridade semântica. Com isso, os usos e as funções entre os dois objetos também se alternam: uma parte do corpo humano pode ocupar o lugar de um alimento e vice-versa. Os limites entre ver e comer também são forçados. O presente artigo analisará as relações estabelecidas entre o alimento, representado no livro pelo ovo, os prazeres do corpo e a linguagem poética e transgressora do livro.
