Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine schooling in Campinas, during the last decade of nineteen century so as to show it as part of the general political strategy of a group of representative of higher income brackets of a dominate class (owner of coffee plantation in western part of the state) having been put aside from the center of power hoped to play hand on it with the coming of the republic.
