Paleontology of the sandy facies of the Taquaral member, (Permian), State of São Paulo: state-of-the-art and additional contributions

The Irati Formation, Permian (Cisuralian) of the Paraná Basin, stands out for significative geologic and paleontologic characteristics. Among its fossils, crustaceans and Mesosauridae reptiles are the most known and studied. Disarticulated fish remains found in the Taquaral basal sandy facies have been cited by earlier researchers, but no paper has been published. This gap has been fulfilled with several contributions abridged in this work. Most of the remains are teeth, scales and indeterminate bone fragments from Actinopterygii. Chondrichthyes present the largest taxonomic diversity, represented by teeth and dorsal finspines. The most abundant teeth are of the Holocephali Itapyrodus, initially considered monospecific, I. punctatus>/i>. Recent studies revealed that different morphotypes identified as Itapyrodus, might include several species. The Elasmobranchs are represented by cladodont teeth, at least three genera based on dorsal finspines (Amelacanthus, Sphenacanthus and one indeterminate genus), one Orodontiformes species, Orodus ipeunaensis, and Xenacanthiformes, Taquaralodus albuquerquei and two indeterminate species. Other fossils were also registered; Sarcopterygii (Actinistia, Osteolepiformes), tetrapods (Temnospondyli), indeterminate ichnofossils and citations of microfossils (foraminifers, ostracods and acritarchs).A Formação Irati, Permiano (Cisuraliano) da Bacia do Paraná, destaca-se por importantes características geológicas e paleontológicas. Entre seus fósseis, os crustáceos e répteis Mesosauridae são os mais conhecidos e estudados. Nas fácies arenosas do Membro Taquaral sempre foram citados restos de peixes desarticulados, mas nenhum trabalho foi publicado. Esta lacuna no conhecimento paleontológico foi preenchida com diversas contribuições que serão resumidas neste trabalho. A maior parte dos fósseis são dentes, escamas e partes ósseas indeterminadas de Actinopterygii, porém deve-se aos Chondrichthyes maior diversidade taxonômica, na forma de dentes e espinhos. Os dentes mais abundantes pertencem ao Holocephali Itapyrodus, inicialmente considerado monoespecífico, I. punctatus. Estudos recentes revelaram que diferentes morfotipos identificados como Itapyrodus, podem incluir várias espécies. Os elasmobrânquios são representados por dentes cladodontes, pelo menos três gêneros baseados em espinhos, (Amelacanthus, Sphenacanthus e um indeterminado), uma espécie de Orodontiformes, Orodus ipeunaensis, e Xenacanthiformes, com a espécie Taquaralodus albuquerquei e duas espécies indeterminadas.
