While many areas of healthcare are under review, the use of diagnostic imaging (e.g., radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography) is currently in the policy spotlight due to a dramatic increase in the use of these services. As the use of diagnostic imaging has increased, the costs associated with imaging have also grown dramatically; unfortunately, these trends have not been associated with improved patient outcomes. For physical therapists, a strong understanding of all aspects of diagnostic imaging is necessary and its use must be judicious and evidence-based.
