Living Together in the Chilean Transition to Democracy: Between Memory & Indifference to Past Human Rights Violations Hugo RojasUniversity of Oxford and Alberto Hurtado University February 23, 2015 During the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990), human rights were systemically violated. After 25 years of transition to democracy, it is interesting to analyze and discuss how Chileans are remembering the horrors of the past. The politics of memory remain a controversial issue in Chile today, and the efforts of memory entrepreneurs do not resonate in different sectors of a still divided and polarized society.
