Carotenoids are metabolites produced by microalgae that perform as accessory pigments in photosynthesis and as photoprotective molecules. In order to increase the accumulation of carotenoids in the microalga Scenedesmus dimorphus, salinity (NaCl and KNO3) and blue led light were evaluated as stress factors when reaching the stationary phase of culture growth in such microalga. After evaluation, the best of the two salts studied was KNO3 0.6M, since this culture reached the highest concentration of total carotenoids (0.3357±0.02 μg carotenoids mL-1), in contrast to 0.1791±0.01 µg mL-1 with NaCl 0.6 M.
