This collection consists of correspondence and additional papers concerning financial and legal matters of the Griffith, Nicks, and Gibson families in Fort Smith and Little Rock. The collection documents the estate of General John Nicks (1774-1831), including his slave and land holdings in Arkansas and Louisiana. Also included are documents concerning the slave holdings of Nicks's business partner, merchant Robert S. Gibson, and the estate papers of Robert's wife, Sarah "Sallie" Nicks Gibson
