English-language printed materials located during a master's thesis research project have potential for the study of nineteenth and twentieth century men's tailoring by costume historians. Pattern-drafting systems were produced beginning in the early nineteenth century and increased in numbers as the century progressed. Tailors' trade journals and fashion plates proliferated with the general increase in technical journals of the late nineteenth century. Bills of prices listed garments made by the trade and prices charged. Some instructional manuals were located. Sources can be found in libraries and museums.
