The objective of this essay is to investigate, with the support of Leyla Perrone-Moisés’ and Todorov’s ideas, how the romantic principles give form to the 19thcentury modern French poetry which was developed, according to Henri Meschonnic, in two great moments: the “literary modernity” of Baudelaire and the “poetic modernity” of Mallarmé.
