El bloqueo de la adhesión fimbrial como opción terapéutica

In a great number of bacterial diseases, the first stage of the infection depends on the specific bacteria-cell contact. The host specific cellular receptors and diverse factors, mainly fimbrias, are involved in this interaction. The interruption of this step block the next ones and the infection does not take place. The acute diarrheic diseases and the urinary tract infections due to E. coli are examples as much as in humans as in animal species. The fimbria adhesion blockade has been intented by different ways such as the use of antibiotics in sublethal concentrations , the application of vaccines and immunoserums, the use of structural analogs to the fimbrias or the receptors and the use of medicinal plant extracts. The work critically analyzes the advantages and limitations of these methods and offers examples of the results of a decode which were obtained with the last variant. It shows how the blockade of the fimbrial expression and the interference in the receptors for fimbrias of the enterotoxigenic ( K 88, K 99 y CFA / I) and uropathogenus (P) E. coli is produced in vitro due to the interaction with the plant extracts used for the treatment of EDA (Eucalyctus saligna and Eucalypus citriodora ) and ITU (Achirantes aspera, Lepidium virginicum L., Ageratum conyzoides L, Zingiber officinale Rose, Curcuma longa L, Costus Speciosus Smith and Xanthium occidentale Bertol.).En numerosas enfermedades bacterianas el primer estadio de la infección depende del contacto específico bacteria-célula. En esta interacción intervienen determinados receptores celulares del hospedero y diversos factores de adhesión bacterianos, fundamentalmente fimbrias. La interrupción de este paso bloquea los subsiguientes y con ello no tiene lugar la infección. La enfermedad diarreica aguda (EDA) y las infecciones del tracto urinario (ITU) debidas a E. coli constituyen ejemplos al respecto, tanto en humanos como en numerosas especies animales. El bloqueo de la adhesión fimbrial se ha intentado por diversas vías: empleo de antibióticos en concentraciones subletales, aplicación de vacunas e inmunosueros, utilización de análogos estructurales a las fimbrias o a los receptores y la utilización de extractos de plantas medicinales. El trabajo enjuicia críticamente las ventajas y limitaciones de estos métodos y ofrece ejemplos de los resultados de un decenio obtenidos con la última variante. Se demuestra cómo debido a la interacción frente a un grupo de extractos de plantas utilizadas para el tratamiento de las EDA (Eucalyptus saligna y Eucalyptus citriodora) e ITU (Achirantes aspera, Lepidium virginicum L, Ageratum conyzoides L, Zingiber officinale Rose, Curcuma longa L, Costus speciosus Smith y Xanthium occidentale Bertol) se produce in vitro, el bloqueo de la expresión fimbrial y/o la interferencia en los receptores para fimbrias de E. coli enterotoxigénica (K88, K99 y CFA/I) y uropatógenas (P)
