The use of a gene fragment that codifies for 987P fimbrial subunit as a DNA probe for 987P+ native strains detection from 117 E. coli isolates, in swine farms in Camagüey, is herein reported. Out of 77 neonates tested, 4 (5,2 %) proved to be infected with E. coli strains carrying the 987P fimbrial gene by ELISA and Western-Blot.
