Tourism as a source of socioeconomic development for the regions

El turismo como industria debe ser una actividad socialmente responsable con la población y los recursos de los que se nutre garantizando su protección. Por ello, se realiza una reflexión, en torno a los resultados de la investigación realizada por el equipo de investigación GRS, en el año 2010 en el municipio de Salento, Quindío, con la finalidad de analizar el aporte de la actividad turística al desarrollo socioeconómico de la región. En él se observa la carencia de bases de datos estadísticos como fuente primaria de información, así mismo, el desconocimiento en la población local y el gremio empresarial sobre las raíces autóctonas y la protección del patrimonio. La actividad turística en el municipio de Salento se desarrolla de manera empírica y no corresponde a una actividad planificada que contribuya al desarrollo social y económico, aunque se genera empleo, el desarrollo no es integral, sostenible ni equitativo. Esta investigación se realizó con el apoyo de la comunidad, mediante la aplicación de encuestas a toda la población y los empresarios del sector gastronómico del municipio de Salento.Tourism as an industry ought to be a socially responsible activity for the population and for the resources derived from it guaranteeing its protection. Therefore, a reflection was made out of the results from the survey conducted by the GRS research group in Salento Quindío 2010 with the purpose of analyzing the tourism activity contributions to the socioeconomic development of the region. The report shows the lack of statistic data bases as a primary source of information, likewise the unawareness of the local population and the entrepreneurial associations about the native roots and the heritage protection. The touristic activity in Salento, has empirically been developed and don´t correspond to a well planned activity that contributes to the social and economic development; even though it generates employment, the development is not integral, sustainable neither equitable.
