Contrast-induced acute kidney injury is a very important pathology when decisions must be made in the diagnostic or therapeutic management of patients presenting renal impairment. It can be defined as a decrease in renal function that occurs hours or days after the application of contrast medium. There are risk factors related to the patient such as pre-existing renal disease, acute or chronic renal failure, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure or chronic hypertension. There are also other risk factors that are related to the procedure, these have to do with the type of contrast medium, amount and volume of dose.
