The development of new bi- and tri-dimensional (2D, 3D) analytical techniques of volcanic materials representsa new frontier in the world of modern volcanology. These advances not only offer important andreliable information on, e.g., magma vesiculation, degassing, and crystallization processes but can alsoshade light on the transport and sedimentation processes in volcanic flows (e.g. pyroclastic density currents,volcanic clouds). Hence, these novel approaches have the potential to contribute both to the understandingeruption dynamics towards volcanic hazard quantification
