How do students, teachers, and school administrator end up in the news?Öğrenci, öğretmen ve idareci ne yaparsa haber olur?

The current study aims to investigate how students, teachers, and administrators are represented in the media. During a one-year period, the way students, teachers, and administrators were presented was investigated on a news website chosen for research purposes. In the current research designed as a qualitative research, the document review was based on the homepage and the headlines, subheadings, and other news included in the news website. News about students, teachers, and administrators was content-analyzed. It was observed that news about students, teachers, and administrators was mostly (almost 3/4) negative. Negative examples were mostly associated with legal and corrupt topics whereas positive news consisted of up-to-date and interesting topics about education. In conclusion, it is observed that the news media does not make much of a positive contribution in community’s perception of students, teachers, and administrators. Thus, particularly media employees are required to act more responsibly when selecting and presenting news. Community or professional groups such as students, teachers, and administrators must be more aware and be able to put forward relevant civic reaction. ÖzetBu çalışmanın amacı öğrenci, öğretmen ve idarecinin medyada nasıl temsil edildiğini incelemektir. Bu doğrultuda seçilen bir haber web sitesinde bir yıllık bir süreçte yapılan haberlerde öğrenci, öğretmen ve idarecinin nasıl sunulduğu incelenmiştir. Nitel araştırma olarak planlanan çalışmada web haber sitesinin ana sayfası ve bu sayfada yer alan sür manşet, manşet ve etek haberler doküman incelemesine tabi tutulmuştur. Öğrenci, öğretmen ve idareciyle ilgili haberler içerik analizi yoluyla çözümlenmiştir. Öğrenci, öğretmen ve idarecilere ilişkin haberlerin büyük bir oranda (yaklaşık 3/4) olumsuz haberler olduğu görülmektedir. Olumsuz örnekler daha çok adli vakalar ve gayri ahlaki konularla ilgiliyken; olumlu haberler de daha çok eğitime dair güncel ve ilginç haberleri oluşturmaktadır. Sonuç olarak haber medyasının kamuoyunda öğrenci, öğretmen ve idareci konusunda oluşacak algıya pek de olumlu katkı sağlamadığı görülmektedir. Bu noktada özellikle medya çalışanlarının haberlerin seçiminde ve sunumunda daha sorumlu hareket etmeleri gerekmektedir. Öğrenci, öğretmen ve idareci gibi toplumsal veya mesleki gruplar daha bilinçli olmalı ve gerekli sivil tepkisini ortaya koyabilmelidir
