Giddens ve Küresel Demokrasi

Globalization, becomes one of the most debatable subjects in the recent epochs, as a concept that takes effect almost every area from economics to politics, from culture to social integration.One of the most powerful representative of new sociology theories, Giddens, who supports the idea of the necessity of reconfiguration of nation-states and their establishments, brings a new sociological aspect to the subject within the framework of democracy concept.In this paper, in the light of ideas of Giddens, the questions like “how is democracy affected by the globalization” and “will a new conception of democracy take the place of democracy in nation-states” are tried to be answered.Briefly, as a result of examining the globalization phenomenon and future of democracy within the framework of views and ideas of Giddens, the idea of “the necessity of reconfiguration of democracy and its establishments” appears from a sociological aspect.Küreselleşme, ekonomiden politikaya, kültürden toplumsal bütünleşmeye kadar hemen her alanda etkisini gösteren bir kavram olarak son dönemin en çok tartışılan konularından biri olmuştur. Yeni sosyoloji teorilerinin güçlü temsilcilerinden, ulus-devletlerin ve ulus-devlet kurumlarının yeniden yapılandırılması görüşünde olan Giddens’ın demokrasi kavramı çerçevesinde yaptığı değerlendirmeler konuya yeni bir sosyolojik bakış açısı kazandırmıştır. Makalede, demokrasinin küreselleşmeden etkilenip etkilenmediği ve ulus-devlet demokrasisinin yerini yeni bir demokrasi anlayışının alıp almayacağı soruları Giddens’ın düşünceleri ışığında yanıtlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Kısaca, sosyolojik bakış açısıyla küreselleşme olgusu ve demokrasinin geleceği Giddens’ın görüş ve düşünceleri çerçevesinde incelenmesi sonucunda küreselleşmenin demokrasi ve kurumlarını yeniden yapılandırılması gerektiği görüşü ortaya çıkmaktadır
