Encouraging Collaboration: The Effects of Collaborative High-Impact Practices on At-Risk Student Success

This project includes a review of relevant research in the field of higher education in regards to student success initiatives. This project takes the form of three publishable articles. The first article was an application project involving collaboration between multiple student support services and involving advising and graduate consultation meetings for an at-risk student base. The results of the article showed eliminating barriers for at-risk students led to a higher number of credits achieved. Raising the bar for students helped them to meet and sometimes surpass the bar. The second article was a quantitative research project which measured the impact of the collaborations on at-risk student success. The results of this project implied a significant difference of attending graduate consultant meetings on cumulative grade point average for a special admissions cohort. The third article was a proposal for a qualitative design for future research involving how other institutions can measure their collaborative programs for at-risk students and determine the measures to use for such a project. Peer-reviewed, relevant references were incorporated to offer support for the research project
