APRENDIZAGEM DE RELAÇÕES EMERGENTES POR EXCLUSÃO EM CRIANÇAS DE 2 A 3 ANOS

Responding by exclusion is a robust phenomenon in vocabulary learning. However, there is not enough evidence of children under 36 months of age learning emerging relationships by exclusion. This study sought to verify whether name-object relations could be learned after a single exclusion trial and after repeated exposure to similar exclusion trials. In a day-care center for children and toddlers, we requested eight participants, aged from 27 to 36 months, to select objects conditionally to spoken words in an auditory-visual matching-to-sample task. The general procedure involved teaching baseline auditory-visual relations (BL); exclusion, learning, and control probes; a naming test and a verbal repertoire assessment. When participants did not meet the BL learning criterion, an additional teaching procedure was conducted, which involved progressively increasing the number of comparison stimuli and decreasing the number of trials. If the learning probes criterion was not met, participants were re-exposed to the general procedure. Throughout the experiment, each participant was re-exposed to the general procedure and four children were re-exposed to the additional BL teaching procedure. Three out of eight participants learned the object-name relations and performance was high on the control probes. The largest number of exposures to trials similar to exclusion trials increased the likelihood of learning the name-object relationship. O responder por exclusão é um fenômeno robusto da aprendizagem de vocabulário. A aprendizagem de relações emergentes por exclusão em crianças menores de 36 meses de idade, entretanto, ainda requer comprovação. Este estudo teve como objetivo verificar a aprendizagem das relações nome-objeto, após uma única tentativa de exclusão e após repetições de tentativas similares à tentativa de exclusão. Em uma creche, foi solicitada a oito participantes, com 27 a 36 meses de idade, a seleção de objetos condicionalmente a palavras faladas, em tarefas de emparelhamento com o modelo auditivo visual. O procedimento geral incluiu: ensino de relações de linha de base (LB); sondas de exclusão, de aprendizagem e de controle; teste de nomeação de estímulos e avaliação do repertório verbal. Caso o critério de acerto nas sondas de aprendizagem não fosse obtido, era conduzida a reexposição ao procedimento geral. Se não fosse atingido o critério de aprendizagem de relações de LB, era conduzido um procedimento adicional de ensino, envolvendo aumento progressivo do número de comparações e diminuição do número de tentativas. Cada participante foi reexposto ao procedimento geral, e quatro participantes ao ensino adicional da LB. Três de oito participantes aprenderam a relação nome-objeto e tiveram desempenho acurado na sonda controle. Observou-se que o maior número de exposições a tentativas similares à tentativa de exclusão aumentou a probabilidade de ocorrência da aprendizagem da relação nome- objeto.
