FEASIBILITY OF ORGANIC RICE CALTIVATION IN BANYUMAS DISTRICT

The government has lounched a program of “go organic” since 2010. Associated with this program, Banyumas is one area that has good potential for organic rice cultivation. The general objective of this study was to determine feasibility of organic rice cultivation in Banyumas District, while the specific objectives were to determine: (1) the financial aspect of organic rice cultivation in the lowland area; (2) the financial aspect of organic rice cultivation in the medium land; (3) comparison financial aspect of organic rice cultivation in lowland and medium land; (4) response of farmers on the performance of assembled of organic rice production technology. The research method used was experimental method with nested pattern design with two treatments A and B. Each treatment plot divided into 4 sub-plots and each sub-plots further divided into 4 sub-sub plots as replicates. Participatory research methods are used to determine the response of farmers to the performance of the tested technology assembly. The analysis tools of financial aspects used include: (a) Return Cost Ratio (R/C), (b) Profit Rate, and (c) Break Even Point (BEP). Descriptive analysis is used to determine the responses of farmers to the performance of technology assembly. The results showed that: (1) in lowland, the two assemblies of organic rice cultivation technologies A and B were feasible based on criteria of R/C (2.51), Profit Rate (151%), and BEP, (2 ) in medium land, the two assemblies of organic rice cultivation technologies A and B were feasible either based on criteria of R/C (1.12), Profit Rate (11.2%), and BEP, (3) cultivation of organic rice more profitable conducted in the lowlands than in medium lands, (4) response of farmers to organic rice production technology profile was quite well. Based on the financial aspects its could be concluded that organic rice cultivation in Banyumas District was viasible
