This paper presents the initial stages of a syllabus design for English and Italian languages in the Department of Dentistry in the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. To define the content of the syllabus we had to know the students’ profile, the learning needs, attitudes and the degree of language proficiency. For a systematic analysis of the teaching/learning field we adopted the use of questionnaires and selected our sample in two stages.
