Socio-political changes in the new Europe, characterized by the growth of mobility of the workforce and an increase in collaboration between academic institutions across borders, are producing a new type of multilingual environment, spawning new linguistic demands that cannot be ignored. This paper will present the qualitative and quantitative differences in administrative staffs linguistic needs in the academic environment as revealed from a research conducted in 1992 and repeated after one decade in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
