The article is focused over the transformation of the celebration of the St. Cyril and St. Methodius as apostles among the Slavs. Two different identities could be observed. The primary 9th century ecclesiastical image of the Holy Brothers describes them as apostles among the Slavs, being part of the mission of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Ten centuries later they are seen as part of an national Renaissance as local saints inventing new national Orthodox identity. The various interpolations are interpreted through a liturgical-historical methodology and ecclesiological aspects of this transformation are drawn, that turn to be corresponding to the 19th century contemporary ideology of Pan-Slavism and rise of autocephalous churches and nation...
