Disability rights activists have been trailblazers in the public debate about prenatal genetic testing. They provide meaningful critique about whether such testing should be offered and, more importantly, guidance about adequately and appropriately informing decision-makers. This paper illuminates the rhetorical devices that the disability and medical communities use in policy statements to frame the issues surrounding prenatal genetic screening and testing. The qualitative analysis focuses on how these stakeholder groups imitate and engage the abortion conversation in both form and content, particularly in their use of the language of choice.
