Introduction Premature rupture of membranes (RPM) is the rupture of fetal membranes before the onset of labor. The incidence of RPM is 2.7 to 7 percent in China and 5 to 15 percent in America. In most cases, this occurs in the short term; however, when membrane rupture occurs before 37 weeks of gestation, it is known as premature preterm rupture of membranes (RPPM).
