INFESTAÇÃO POR GALHAS EM Manihot esculenta CRANTZ (EUPHORBIACEAE): AVALIAÇÃO DOS IMPACTOS NA ARQUITETURA E NA PRODUTIVIDADE DA PLANTA HOSPEDEIRA

This research aimed to describe the leaf gall infestation in M. esculenta and to evaluate its impact on architecture and plant productivity in a cultivated area from the Farm Santa Rita in Wanderlândia, TO. There were randomly chosen 20 individuals per area, from which ten were infested and ten healthy, and measured the quantity of galls per leaf, the location of the galls in the leaf blade, the number of branches in the leaves quantity, the quantity of leaf per individual and the number, length and weight of the roots. The results indicate that M. esculenta presents monotalamous green cylindrical galls with tector trichomes and they have a single larva of the inductor. The infestation was more relevant in the rainy one and a bigger number of galls were observed in the border of the plantation. The region between the veins and the leaf surface presented greater abundance of galls, while the infected individuals showing major number of branches when compared to the non-infested ones, the peripheral region exhibit longer roots; the roots weight have not a negative impact in the production. The developed research comprehend the first results for Manihot esculenta and Jatrophobia brasiliensis (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) that were registered in the State Tocantins scientific literature.El objetivo de este estudio fue describir la infestacion por agallas em la hojas de M. esculenta y avaliar los impactos en la arquitectura y productividad vegetal em un área de cultivo situada en la Hacienda Santa Rita, Wanderlândia, TO. Fueran colectados  alectoriamente 20 indivíduos por área, siendo 10 infestados y 10 no infestados, y medidos el numero de agallas por hoja, localización em el limbo foliar, número de ramos por indivíduo, de hojas por indivíduo, número de raíces por planta, longitud y el peso de las raíces. Los resultados evidenciaron que la especie M. esculenta presenta agallas cilíndrica, verdes, com tricomas tectores, monotálama y un inductor por loculo. La infestation fue más expressiva em la estación lluviosa, com um mayor numero de agallas em la borda del plantio. La región entre nervuras do limbo foliar presentó mayor numero de agallas, mientras los indivíduos infectados presentaron, mayor numero de ramas. La región periférica presentó raíces más larga; el peso de las raíces no hay impactado de manera negativa en la productividad. La presente investigación sobre los aspectos del sistema Manihot esculenta y Jatrophobia brasiliensis (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) son los primeiros resultados registrados em la literatura científica para el estado de Tocantins.Objetivou-se descrever a infestação por galhas foliares em M. esculenta e avaliar os impactos na arquitetura e produtividade da planta em uma área com cultivo localizada na Fazenda Santa Rita em Wanderlândia, TO. Foram escolhidos aleatoriamente 20 indivíduos por área, sendo 10 infestados e 10 sadios, e mensurados o número de galhas por folha, localização no limbo foliar, número de ramos por planta, quantidade de folhas por indivíduo, número de raízes por planta, comprimento e o peso das raízes. Os resultados indicaram que a espécie M. esculenta apresenta galhas do tipo cilíndrica, verdes, com tricomas tectores, monotálama e com um indutor por loja. A infestação foi mais relevante na chuvosa e um maior número de galhas foi observado na borda do plantio. A região entre nervuras do limbo foliar apresentou maior número de galhas, enquanto os indivíduos infestados apresentaram maior número de ramos quando comparados aos sem infestação, a região periférica apresentou raízes mais longas; o peso das raízes não impactou de forma negativa na produtividade. A pesquisa desenvolvida envolve os aspectos do sistema Manihot esculenta e Jatrophobia brasiliensis (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), sendo estes os primeiros resultados registrados na literatura científica para o Tocantins
