Abstract: Rationale: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has been shown to increase survival rates for patients with acute respiratory failure. Yet, this extreme measure has been commonly used only in large university or government based hospitals. Lehigh Valley Health Network began using ECMO in 2013 and has seen great success. By using the Respiratory Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Survival Prediction (RESP) score, clinicians can better target patients who will benefit from ECMO as well as patients who need more resources and attention.
