Carrie Stout Interview, 1983

Carrie Stout talks about how she first came to Stanford, Montana, from Penalosa, Kansas, in search of more farmland for her three brothers. She recalls working on her family’s farm including her year in Wyoming during the drought years. Stout describes a typical day in her life during the 1920s, which included caring for her children, milking cows, and feeding calves and hogs. She tells about life during the Great Depression, noting that living on the farm and producing their own food reduced the impact of that difficult time. She reminisces about taking trips to Great Falls, Montana, where her family attended operas, eat in restaurants, and enjoy the drive into the city.
