She recalls the different requirements of flight school, the types of planes she flew, and her instructors. Volkomener talks about being one of 1,800 women who were accepted into a civil-service military flying program. She also describes some of her misadventures and close calls while flying different training missions. Volkomener recalls quitting flying when she married in 1950 due to the high cost of renting and flying a plane.
