Philip L. Wright Interview, June 21, 1994

Philip Wright discusses his childhood and family life in Nashua, New Hampshire, and recalls his early interest in photographing birds. He tells how studying to become a zoologist, teaching at the University of Montana, and working in the University’s zoological museum led to him to entering various species in the Boone and Crockett Club’s big game species competitions. He talks about being invited to serve as an official measurer for the Club, then joining the Club in 1971. Wright recalls serving on the Conservation and Membership Committees. He talks about the Club’s scoring system and the ways it has evolved over the years. Wright discusses the concept of “fair chase” as well as the practice of “crusting” for moose. He talks about trophy hunting and its effects on poaching.
