A délvidéki magyarság helyzetéről a Prágai Magyar Hírlap Trianon utáni számaiban

The aim of my lecture is to observe the development of Hungarian public life in Yugoslavia after first world war from the perspective of the Hungarians living in Czechoslovakia. I would like to focus on the situation of the Hungarian community in the south (on the territory of Yugoslavia), the situation of the same in the north (on the territory of Czechoslovakia) and the aspects of foreign and economic policy. So far there is no publication about this era where the position of certain parts of the nation is seen from the perspective of another dislocated area. I think that since the events of this period depended heavily on international reactions and contemporary Hungarian politics, it is not negligible to point out any divergent opinions. In this paper, I study the news about the Hungarian part of Yugoslavia in the first issues of the Magyar Hírlap in Prague in 1922, 1923 and 1924. The Southern Region attached to Yugoslavia in Trianon had never been an independent state, in always depended on Budapest in economical and intellectual sense. Most officials, government employees, intellectuals were treated in a similar way as in Czechoslovakia. This had a major impact on the situation of the middle class as the missing intellectuals and government officials could only been recruited from the members of the working classes and peasants. This change inevitably had an impact on the intellectual attitude, the number of the members of the middle class decreased considerably. In my work I find it worthwhile to highlight those Czechoslovak–Yugoslavian interstate relations which, in my opinion, have influenced the methods of treating the minority
