BackgroundPseudomonas aeruginosa isan opportunistic bacterium that infects the airways of cystic fibrosispatients, surfaces of surgical and burn wounds, and indwelling medical devices.Patients are prone to secondary fungal infections, with Candida albicans beingcommonly co-isolated with P. aeruginosa.
